Aging well with Pamela Smith, MD, MPH, MS
Center for Healthy Living & Longevity

As we age our body experiences many changes. Many of those changes are based on our hormones and the resulting impact that will have on our overall well-being. Dr. Pamela Smith is the Founder and Director of the Center for Healthy Living and Longevity. She has dedicated her life to understanding how to help our aging population age well so that they can live happier, healthier lives longer.

We had an opportunity to meet with Dr. Smith in her Grosse Pointe Farms office and discuss how new hormone therapies and progressive new in depth testing are making major differences in the lives of her nearly 3,000 patients in her private practice, many of which are women.

“The science is there that we can make real differences in people’s lives with specific hormones treatments that are custom tailored to an individual,” Dr. Smith told us. With the number of laboratories that have sprung up around the country it is possible with a simple saliva, blood or urine test to find out an individuals specific hormone levels and develop a unique treatment to create balance for that person as they go through the aging years.

On this particular day of filming we documented Dr. Smith with patient Dottie Deremo, a 68-year old woman who was gaining a new perspective of her benchmark health with a test from ZRT Laboratories located in Portland, Oregon. The findings from the laboratory analysis enabled Dr. Smith to customize a carefully thought out plan for Dottie that would include natural supplements such as ginger as well as a prescription for customized hormone replacement therapy.

Dr. Smith made a direct point that common sense eating a wide range of fruits and vegetables, lean protein as well as regular exercise is paramount for the healthy aging body.

We are sure that featuring Dr. Pamela Smith in our series about women and aging will be a wonderful addition.
