Roger Kruse, MD
Regenerative Medicine
Toledo, Ohio

As we age our bodies begin to wear down. Our joints begin to lose the cartilage in them and become stiff and painful. We move a little slower. Many people receive artificial knees or hips sometimes as early as the 50’s. Dr. Roger Kruse is a physician based in Toledo, Ohio that has spent his career in medicine helping this part of the population as well as world-class athletes before considering surgery.

Dr. Kruse implores cutting edge practices and medicine to improve the quality of life for each and every patient. On our visit recently to the Wildwood Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio enabled us to interview Dr. Krause about regenerative medicine, what it is and how it can help not just the world-class trained athlete but everyone else as well. Along with being the head physician for the University of Toledo he has also been a team physician for 3 US Olympic figure skating teams including the head physician for the 1998 game in Nagano, Japan.

On this particular day we were able to film Dr. Krause with a patient while undergoing platelet-rich plasma therapy, as known as PRP.  This treatment takes the patients own blood and puts it into a centrifuge to increase the amount of increasing the platelet-rich plasma from the platelet-poor plasma. The blood is then returned to the patient in the area of need, in this case that we documented the knee. This type of treatment can be common for aging women and athletes as their knees begin to wear down.

He is also performing hormone replacement therapy for female patients going through menopause or other metabolic changes in the life possibly as a result of ovarian surgery. This type of therapy can reduce the symptoms that so many women struggle with.

Colleen is a woman in her early 50’s she has been experiencing these life changes. Her hot flashes and fatigue where extremely uncomfortable so she came to Dr. Kruse for options. With hormone replacement therapy she has seen a dramatic improvement in both the number of hot flashes, as well as her energy levels. Colleen is feeling great now.

With the advancement of medical treatments, an individual’s quality of life can last long into their golden. For the aging woman there are more choices than there have been in the past and this is welcome news. With women living longer than their male counterparts now there are more ways to help ensure that the quality of their lives can coincide with the years.

We are thrilled to have Dr. Kruse and Colleen as a part of the “Embrace of Aging” series.
