Executive Physical - Stress Test with Susan Bowman
Mayo Clinic
Rochester, Minnesota

We all know knowledge is power. This translates to health as well as understanding your baseline physical condition - especially the workings of your heart. The Mayo Clinic offers a test for men and women to come in and be evaluated. Part of that evaluation is to have a stress test and have a one-on-one with one of their leading cardiologists. On this particular day we had the chance to document Susan Bowman’s stress test.

Susan hails from a small town south of Fargo, North Dakota.   She made the five-hour drive to Mayo Clinic because of the quality of care that they provide. Many of the patients at the clinic come from across the country.

We watched as Susan took her standard stress test on the treadmill. Her heart rate was monitored closely as they increased the intensity and recorded the results. Susan then received an overview of the workout programs that would be best for her before she met with Dr. Sharonne Hayes. Dr. Hayes talked openly about weight control, proper diet, and good and bad cholesterol. She made it clear that while genetics and family history of heart disease are important factors, lifestyle changes and exercise are critical to having a healthy heart for an aging body.

This filming will be a nice addition to the discussions that we have had with cardiologist Dr. Sharonne Hayes about women's heart care and the steps that women should take to understand their aging heart.
