A night with the girls – Jill Jack

As the Embrace of Aging continues one thing stands out as a common theme for a happy, full-filled life and that is the love that only your closest friends can give you. We had a chance to document a dinner with Jill Jack and three of her closest friends – Tamara, Sherette and Lisa. These women have been through everything together – love, children, cancer, you name it. Just being in the same room with them it is obvious that there is not anything that they would not do for each other.

It was a beautiful night as Jill prepared dinner for the girls. She loves to cook in her new kitchen that her husband Roger built for her and this is the first time that she would get to do so for her nearest and dearest. As the women arrived they were greeted by a hug from Jill as well as a hello from Lulu the dog and Buster the cat. Each woman has their own distinct personality that balances with the others.  This was most evident when Lisa arrived with the jello shots. “I don’t think that they would let me in if I didn’t bring them,” she told us jokingly.

As they waited for dinner to be ready they sat and talked in the kitchen enjoying their time together. They would talk about what it was like getting older. How they manage when the kids leave the house; what it takes to keep a relationship fresh and happy; where they plan on spending their “ChickFest;” and what they would like to accomplish the next decade of their lives.

Whatever they decide you can rest assure that they will always make time for each other. We are thrilled to have these women as part of our 13 part documentary series The Embrace of Aging: The Female Perspective of Growing Old.
