Michael Calcaterra We recently sat down with Michael Calcaterra, a fourth-generation funeral director. Michael shared with us everything from the general stigma that comes with the profession as a funeral director to how the industry has changed over the years. He gave a great example of a web-based service called BeRemembered.com where people can plan far into the future for the day when family and friends will be saying their good-byes and how emotionally touching it can be for their loved ones to watch and listen to personal thoughts about their own lives. Michael also reflected on the burial of Sgt. Matthew Leach who, while between tours serving in Afghanistan, was an employee of Wujek-Calcaterra. Michael and his family would find themselves taking care of Sgt. Leach when he died in Afghanistan during one of his tours. "I can't tell you how hard that was for all of us." "Yes, unlike our image, we are far more emotional people than we may seem. We just need to always represent a professional presence for all. I love what I do for my community each day." |
